Reliability Engineer

The Reliability Engineer creates value for the customer by maximizing the overall equipment effectiveness of critical equipment assets. Assuming all other factors are equal, when equipment performs at its highest level, the customer benefits by getting their product in a timely fashion, at the expected quality level and at or below target cost.

An effective Reliability Engineer adds value over the lifespan of an asset. Prior to purchase, the Reliability Engineer guides design and specification criteria to optimize robustness and maintainability and achieve lowest lifecycle cost. Upon receipt of asset, the Reliability Engineer guides the commissioning of the asset and the development of condition-based maintenance plans. During the lifespan of the equipment, the Reliability Engineer analyzes performance data and implements design improvements and root cause countermeasures to keep the equipment at or above OEM specifications.
Responsibilities
The Role of Reliability Engineer requires strong competencies Failure analysis.
Able to determine root cause of asset failure and prescribe effective countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence.
Facilitates informal (5 whys, fishbone etc.) and formal (Apollo method) Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) events.
Design for Reliability
Able to establish reliability requirements/objectives of a proposed process, system, or machine train.
Able to estimate process and/or equipment reliability using statistical data and experiments.
Reviews equipment specs/designs to ensure equipment can meet reliability objectives.
Capable of guiding commissioning of new equipment and recommending asset maintenance strategy.
Existing Asset Reliability Improvement
Identifies critical equipment and develops and executes reliability improvement strategy for critical assets. This includes improving Conditioned-Based Monitoring and leading PM Optimization efforts.
Carries out life cycle cost analyses to determine most cost effective strategy/option.
Use statistical calculations to identify opportunities to raise overall system performance, and to confirm that improvements were effective.
Facilitates criticality ranking teams on systems in the plant
Facilitates RCM strategy sessions using RCMBlitz (TM) methodology
